Cabin crew strike 17 flights cancelled at Cologne/Bonn Airport
Köln · The strike by flight attendants at Lufthansa entered its next round today, Friday. According to a spokeswoman for Cologne/Bonn Airport, 17 flights have had to be cancelled. Flights at other NRW airports are also cancelled.
On the second day of the flight attendant strike at Lufthansa, passengers at NRW airports should be prepared for dozens of cancellations. In Düsseldorf, 21 out of 570 flights have been cancelled on Friday morning, a spokesman for the airport said early this morning. Connections to and from Munich as well as flights between Düsseldorf and Frankfurt are affected. According to a spokesperson at Cologne/Bonn airport, 17 cancellations were made on Friday of all flights to and from Munich. Münster/Osnabrück Airport is also affected again.
According to Lufthansa’s special flight schedule, about 600 flights are to be cancelled worldwide on Friday. Even after the strike is over, some cancellations are expected for Saturday, because aircraft and crews are not at the correct locations. On Thursday, 800 flights were cancelled, according to a spokesman for the cabin union Ufo. Lufthansa expects a total of 180,000 affected passengers during the 48-hour strike.
In the current wage dispute, Ufo is demanding higher expenses and allowances for the approximately 21,000 Lufthansa flight attendants, as well as better access for seasonal workers to regular employment. Separate demands and strike ballots were held for each of Lufthansa’s four other flight operations. Lufthansa had already voluntarily implemented a wage increase of 2.0 per cent. The main issue in the entire conflict, however, is whether Ufo can still enforce collective agreements for cabin crew.
