Theatre group is looking for new members : Almost 40 years of English-language theatre in Bonn

Would you like to learn how to act, or maybe get involved in stage design or costume making? Joining one of the English-language theatre groups might be just the thing for you. The Bonn Players are looking for members to join them, for example.

The Bonn Players are already performing English-language theatre in Bonn for 38 years. Over those almost four decades, the group has firmly established itself as part of the cosmopolitan cultural life in the Bonn-Cologne region, performing over 80 plays, and winning a number of awards at the annual international Festival of European Anglophone Theatrical Societies.

„At the moment, we are rehearsing Henrik Ibsen’s ‚Ghosts‘ adapted by Richard Eyre, which will be put on at the Brotfabrik in Beuel, from 12 – 16 November,“ says Tracy Tollmann, who plays the role of Helene in the current production. „But we are always looking for new members for our group. We ususally do two main productions a year but also plan to hold a number of smaller events to provide our membership with the opportunity to actively engage with all things theatrical, such as readings, participating in the Bonn Theaternacht, and competing at an annual European festival of English speaking theatre groups.“

The Bonn Players group was originally founded in 1981 as The British Embassy Players. In May 1998, after the embassy moved to Berlin, they assumed the new name of The Bonn Players e.V. Most of the members are residents of the greater Bonn-Cologne area, and are of various nationalities. The name reflects their commitment to English-language theatre, but not to any particular nationality.

In fact, they are thoroughly international and consider this to be one of their strengths. Their past productions have embraced a wide range of cultures, including plays by English, Irish, Scottish, American, and Australian authors, and also English translations from other languages.

Theatre is teamwork and the Bonn Players are always delighted to welcome newcomers and to integrate them in the many and varied tasks on and off stage. The Bonn Players are members of both the Amateurtheaterverband NRW and the Bund Deutscher Amateurtheater.

If you are interested in hearing about future productions and activities, or in joining our group, please contact the group at info@bonnplayers.de.
