The fire brigade was on duty for several hours on Thursday at the Stadthaus in Bonn, and a fire broke out in an archive room in the morning. The building was then evacuated.

According to the fire brigade, the automatic fire alarm system was triggered around 10.35 a.m.. On arrival, the firefighters detected smoke in the basement area of the building and alerted other firefighters. All employees from all three towers as well as visitors had to leave the building immediately. "Basten praised the employees and, above all, the municipal fire protection helpers.

Around 11.15 a.m., the emergency services were able to bring the fire in the room on the third basement floor under control. But due to the strong smoke development in the windowless basement room, the smoke extraction took an extremely long time.

This operation continued for several hours due to extensive post-fighting work and ventilation measures. The fire brigades used fans to remove smoke from the affected sections of the building.

Around 2.15 p.m. the town house could be entered again according to information of the town, approximately half an hour later the fire brigade removed from the building and terminated operations.

There was also praise for the service centre: the employees managed within one hour to process all appointments of persons who had patiently waited. According to Basten, most of the people who had parked their car in the building also behaved in an exemplary manner. "There were only a few who complained about the blockage.“ However, nobody had to pay increased parking fees due to the long waiting time: According to Basten, the barriers had been opened to allow exit gratis.

The fire brigade deployed around 70 firefighters to the fire. The cause is still unclear and the police has started the investigation. According to fire brigade spokesman Heiko Basten, there were no injuries.
