On Wednesday numerous tanks were transported over the rails in the Siebengebirge. According to the state command of North Rhine-Westphalia, this happened in the course of the transfer in connection with Operation "Atlantic Resolve“.

According to a report, a transfer of the second brigade of the first cavalry division from the USA to Europe has been underway since 14 October. At the same time, the first brigade of the first US infantry division is being transferred back from Europe to the USA. According to the national command, the transfers will continue through Germany and by sea from the port of Vlissingen in the Netherlands to other European countries.

Since 14 October around 570 vehicles have been transported. The focus in NRW is on the A2. Wheeled vehicles will drive across the roads at night. Tracked vehicles, on the other hand, will be transported by rail with Deutsche Bahn.

As a spokeswoman announced on Thursday in response to a GA request, it is not known when the transport will take place by rail. Deutsche Bahn itself determines this. It is also not known which tanks will be transported over which route and whether they will be moved back or forth. "Various exercises and relocations are currently underway. But these are all related to 'Atlantic Resolve'," says the spokeswoman on the transport in the Siebengebirge. In the past, tanks were already transported across the Rhine near Bonn.

The press release further states: "The US operation 'Atlantic Resolve' aims to secure peace and stability in the Eastern European NATO countries. Since April 2014, the US armed forces have led a continuous programme of training and security cooperation with allies such as Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Romania, Bulgaria and Hungary.

In Operation 'Atlantic Resolve', the Bundeswehr provides support via the Armed Forces Base, which coordinates assistance to allied or friendly armed forces during their stay in Germany within the framework of 'Host Nation Support'. The infrastructure and capabilities of the Armed Forces Base will provide, inter alia, storage space, storage capacity, operating supplies, accommodation and food, repair, transport and handling".
