With a petition employees and patients of Bonn University Hospital call on the city administration to take action. The profitability calculation from the ministry is still pending.

The proposers of the cable car take the floor: 5149 people call on Lord Mayor Ashok Sridharan and the city administration to improve transport links to Bonn University Hospital. In an online petition that was concluded on Thursday, the signatories pleaded for the construction of the urban cable car to the Venusberg, for improved cycle paths and an expansion of parking facilities on and around the clinic grounds.

Sabine Kurth, the initiator of the project, is delighted with the "strong result" she has achieved with the GA. As the statistics on the platform openpetition.de shows, the desired Quorum of 2500 signatures was exceeded by 200 per cent. 83 per cent of the signatories indicated concern with the traffic problems themselves. 2930 of the signatories originate from Bonn, 1184 from the Rhine victory circle, 226 from the circle Ahrweiler. The high number of 57 percent signatures on lists and 15 percent on the UKB intranet also indicate that the majority of the 8,000 employees at the clinic are actually also significant.

"Kurth, who commutes daily from St. Augustin to the Venusberg, says about her motivation: "I simply couldn't watch any longer". By train and bus she needs 90 minutes each way for the 15 km distance, if there is a hitch in the connection at both transfer points. "Of course, that's why I prefer to take the car. The situation is even more difficult for colleagues working shifts. "If they get to their station too late, the previous shift can't finish," she says. From her office window, she also watches patients or visitors every morning looking for a parking space.

„Agile, mobile. Safe and flexible commute to work"

Kurth, who works as a board assistant for the Medical Director Wolfgang Holzgreve, emphasizes the independence of her action. "I informed the management and was allowed to use the intranet," she says. Otherwise, she acted of her own free will. Since June, she has spent countless hours of her free time on the project entitled "Agil mobil. Safe and flexible to work", 4000 flyers distributed and 2000 signature lists laid out. In January she wants to hand over the signatures to the mayor.

Whether a cable car between Ramersdorf, the Post-Tower, the UN Campus and the Venusberg will ever be an integral part of Bonn's public transport system is still completely open. The cost-benefit calculation originally announced by the city administration for September is still a long time coming. Although the first results have already been presented internally, according to the answer to a major inquiry by the social liberals and the Piratenpartei in the city council.

Since a standardised assessment for an urban cable car in Germany is breaking new ground, however, further coordination with the federal and state governments as possible sponsors and with the Rhineland Local Transport Association is necessary. The Council Office therefore leaves it open as to when a result will be available.
