Hard shoulder and right lane blocked: Mercedes burns out on A565 near Lengsdorf

Bonn. A Mercedes burnt out during Saturday night on the A565 near Bonn-Lengsdorf. According to local information, a 46-year-old was on his way from Meckenheim to Troisdorf in his Mercedes around midnight when the engine suddenly stopped. The driver just managed to stop the vehicle on the hard shoulder near the Lengsdorf junction. The alerted Bonn fire brigade extinguished the burning vehicle. During this work the hard shoulder and the right lane had to be closed.

December 20 to January 5: Bonn's Christmas Circus on the Market Meadows in Pützchen

Beuel. The Bonn Christmas Circus will be opening at the Marktwiesen in Pützchen from 20 December to 5 January. The Big Top has a diameter of 41 metres and is 21 metres high. Premiere is on Friday, 20 December, 7 pm. All pupils of the market school and the Pützchen kindergartens are invited to the preview at 3 pm. Further dates: On weekdays there are daily performances at 3 pm and 7 pm, on Sundays and holidays at 2 pm and 6 pm, Christmas Eve only at 2 pm, New Year's Eve is show-free and on New Year's Eve there’s a performance at 3 pm and a Gala at 8 pm. Admission tickets start at 20 Euro, discounted tickets available. The ticket sale has already begun. The tickets are available at all known box offices. No vacancy despite retirement: Couple from Syria takes over the village shop in Merzbach

Rheinbach. Since master baker Günter Zimmer retired for reasons of age, Syrian couple Fatema and Riad Hemma have taken over the Merzbach village shop. The threatened vacancy of the business premises is thus averted. For seven years the couple ran a grocery store in Syria's capital Damascus as well as two stores selling mobile phones and laptops for an additional five years. Previously, they operated a catering kitchen for eight years. Fatema Hemma is looking forward to the new challenge: "We warmly welcome all citizens of Merzbach and the surrounding area and look forward to your visit and your suggestions.“

Important points for the BBL: Telekom Baskets Bonn beat Syntainics MBC

Bonn. The Telekom Baskets Bonn won against the Syntainics MBC team on Saturday evening with 103:85 and scored important points to get out of the bottom of the table. The team of coach Thomas Päch fought for a 103:85 (29:19, 25:25, 23:24, 26:17) victory on the eleventh matchday of the Basketball Bundesliga, which gives fans and all club officials a little relief. The failures in the BBL had been a pain in the neck.
