Two women are said to have spied on people in Cologne and Bonn while they were taking out money and then stolen from them. The damage is thought to amount to more than 100,000 Euro, police announced on Monday. The 36- and 29-year-old are accused of at least 27 pickpocketing thefts.

They had first observed their victims at ATMs or in banks, and had also spied on their secret PIN numbers. The victims were then distracted and relieved of their wallets with cards and cash. In the case of an elderly couple, for example, the suspects are said to have taken 25,000 Euro, which had previously been withdrawn.

According to investigators, one of the two women is now in custody - because of other theft offences. Investigations into the pocket thefts continued.
