Following a two-year construction period, the new multi-storey car park on Rabinstraße in Bonn is opening on Monday 18 May. According to the city of Bonn, there will be a further 258 parking spaces available close to the railway station and the city centre.

The multi-storey car park is the eighth garage to be operated by the company Bonner City Parkraum (BCP). It is part of the ‘Urban Soul’ construction project on Nordfeld, which has been underway since 2015.

The modern multi-storey car park on Rabinstraße offers spaces to motorists on five levels. The top parking deck provides a good view over the city centre. The car park is open 24 hours a day and, according to BCP, is equipped with the most modern technology: “Access via the main entrance is only granted to authorised persons by holding out a parking ticket,” explains Christopher Otten from BCP.

Payment is made in cash or contactless with an EC or credit card, as well as using Apple Pay or Google Pay. There is also a BCPass which can be used for payment in all BCP-operated car parks. According to the operator, discounted 5-day-tickets will also be available.

Four SWB (Stadtwerke Bonn) charging points will be available for electric cars in the next few weeks. Cars can be charged with eco-electricity provided by SWB, the so-called ‘BonnNatur Strom’.

The integrated bicycle park will also not be open for business for several weeks. This provides space for 200 bicycles. According to the operator, cars and bikes are to be parked separately, and users of the different parking spaces will be kept apart as the access for bicycles is next to the car entrance.

The car park is monitored around the clock by video cameras to ensure customer safety. In addition, the entrances are closed at night with roll-up shutters that can only be opened by the garage users.

The city wants to provide a fast connection to the nearby main train station via a pedestrian bridge between the car park and platform 1 before the end of this year.

The opening of the new multi-storey car park is part of the city’s ongoing work to improve the parking situation in Bonn city centre. The renovated Unigarage has also recently reopened. BCP's station car park with 94 parking spaces is also due to go into operation at the end of the year.
