Ministry of Transport supports Bonn municipal utilities 800,000 Euro for retrofitting old diesel buses

Bonn · The Federal Ministry of Transport promotes the conversion of older diesel buses of the Stadtwerke Bus und Bahn (SWB). The money comes from the "Clean Air" immediate programme.

The Federal Ministry of Transport is funding the conversion of older diesel buses operated by Stadtwerke Bus und Bahn (SWB) with an amount of around 800,000 Euro. The city and SWB announced that the money from the "Clean Air" emergency programme will be used to retrofit a total of 50 buses. In addition, a further 27 diesel buses will soon be retrofitted without subsidies.

With cleaner engines and correspondingly lower nitrogen oxide emissions, the city hopes to avoid driving bans and is expecting particularly positive effects at the Belderberg, where many buses drive. Anja Wenmakers, Managing Director of SWB Bus und Bahn, explained that SWB would make a contribution to improving air quality with its own investments. Mayor Ashok Sridharan said that the retrofits would "perhaps make it possible for the air quality at the Belderberg to fall below the limit value".
