Indie, alternative and punk rock A round-up of the Green Juice Festival in Beuel

Bonn · The Green Juice Festival took place in Villich at the weekend. The organisers are happy. There were around 4500 visitors on both days.

At the end of the Green Juice two day music spectacular on Saturday, the Swedish rock band Royal Republic gave a highly acclaimed performance, which was also the end of their summer tour. “We can’t imagine a better place to end our tour; thanks to the whole organisation team,” said singer Adam Grahn after the last song had been played shortly before 11pm and fireworks had been set off over the stage.

During the day, 4500 or so visitors – almost as many as on Friday – had already enjoyed numerous other bands from the indie, alternative and, above all, punk rock genre. Newcomers from the region, Chin Up, had opened the festival Saturday at noon. “It’s incredible that so many people are already here,” said singer Freddy Haffner. It was not just the gig that was something very special for Chin Up that day: “We’re also giving our very first autograph session. That’s a bit uncomfortable for us,” said Haffner, laughing.

Meanwhile, the Bonn ska-punk band Roskapankki was preparing for its gig. Even before their performance, singer Julian von der Burg was showing how happy he was about Green Juice: “There are so many techno, pop and carnival parties in the region. This is the only remaining rock festival in Bonn. It’s unbelievably valuable that residents support this festival in the middle of a residential area.”

“All in all, a complete success”

After the band’s appearances, there was always enough time to refuel at the snack bars before heading to the front of the stage again for the next band. Those preferring to dance during the breaks between concerts, went to neighbouring stages where DJs played until the next band started on the main stage.

“All in all, the Green Juice Festival was a complete success,” said Julian Reininger, who founded the festival in 2008 and, as the events agency Forisk Entertainment, still organises it today with his brother Simon. And the rain? It stayed away except for a few short showers. “However, we are now very well prepared for this situation and could have taken various counter-measures,” says Reininger.

With the end of the festival, the advance sales for next year also began. The Green Juice Festival 2020 will take place from 31 July to 1 August. Tickets can be purchased at the early bird price of 35 Euro from bonnticket.de and at advance booking outlets.
