Possible serious illness Aldi warns of dangerous bacteria in sausages

Versmold/Bonn/Region · Aldi is recalling a sausage that may be contaminated with harmful bacteria. The producer detected listeria in a sample and is warning of serious illnesses.

Wiltmann, the sausage producer, is warning against the consumption of a “Schinken-Rotwurst” sold by Aldi Süd and in three Aldi-Nord regions. Listeria bacteria were found in a sample. As a precaution, the product labelled “Aufschnitt nach Hausmacher Art, 100g” should not be consumed regardless of its best before date. Aldi has completely removed the product from its range.

The food discounter confirmed the recall action: “Listeria can cause flu-like symptoms with a temperature and diarrhoea. Pregnant women, young children and people with a weakened immune system could develop serious illnesses as a result of consumption.”

The sausage in question can be returned to its branches. The purchase price will be refunded. Other Franz Wiltmann products are not affected, the company continued. Wiltmann had already recalled its “Schinken-Rotwurst” on 15 February 2019, but only those packets with a best before date of 8 March 2019.

Customers with questions can contact Wiltmann by calling 05423 17220 or at info@wiltmann.de
