The Bonn police registered about 50 calls to individuals from fake police officers on Tuesday. The fraudsters proceed systematically in their attempts. The Bonn police had to deal with an unusually high number of fraudulent telephone calls on Tuesday. "Almost all of the 50 or so cases were false police officers," police spokesperson Simon Rott said in response to a GA request. In a Facebook post the police had warned of the fraud after the first calls had become known.

More than half had concentrated on Bad Godesberg and Wachtberg, but the fraudsters also tried their luck in Bonn and Beuel, according to Rott. However, all potential victims had recognized the fake request, hung up and informed the police - also in two attempted grandchild trick calls, in which the scammers pretend to be relatives, in Auerberg and Bad Honnef-Selhof. Most recently, Meckenheim, Swisttal, Unkel, Erpel, Rheinbreitbach, Kasbach-Ohlenberg, Linz and Rheinbrohl were affected.

In the first ten weeks of this year alone, Bonn investigators registered more than 900 calls from fake police officers in the area the Bonn police headquarters are responsible for. "And the number of unreported cases is certainly higher, since not all calls may be reported to us," police spokesperson Frank Piontek said at the beginning of March.

One detail was conspicuous at this time: "We can see from the incoming reports that the fraudsters are targeting entire streets and are gradually calling the entire street," reported Piontek. This is done so that the fraudulent officials can be nearby quickly to hand over the valuables.
