Police apprehend thief Beuel pub robbed using Scream mask and axe

Beuel · A man robbed a pub in Beuel armed with an axe and wearing a mask similar to those in the horror movie “Scream.” The police were able to apprehend the thief. He was admitted to hospital rather than into custody.

A masked and armed man attacked and robbed a pub on Rheinaustraße in Bonn-Beuel on Saturday night. Police reported on Monday morning that the robber, wearing a “Scream” mask, entered the pub at around 1.20pm and was carrying an axe. He demanded those employees present to hand over cash.

Attentive witnesses came to help staff. The masked man snatched a wallet with several hundred Euros from an employee and then fled. Units from police patrol cars, which had been alerted, found the alleged perpetrator near the crime scene a short time later, after they had found and secured the mask near where he had fled. The 35-year-old, who is known to police for property and violent crimes and as a drug user, put down the axe at the police’s request and was then arrested.

As he appeared to be in poor health, he was first treated in a hospital outpatients department. The stolen wallet was found on the suspect, secured and handed back to the victim.
