Bomb threat over Bonn central train station re-opened
Bonn · The Bonn central train station has been cleared of a bomb threat.
A bomb threat late afternoon on Friday caused a major police action at Bonn central train station. Apparently, a man speaking broken German called the Bonn Fire Department at 4:15 p.m. and said there was a bomb left at the Bonn central train station. A police spokesperson said the call came from a telephone booth on Kaiser-Karl-Ring near the LVR Klinik. Witnesses said they saw a man at that time there about 1.8 meters tall, wearing a red jacket and looking südlandisch (southern European).
Police went through the Bonn central train station with dogs sniffing for explosives but they did not find any bombs. They called off the threat and opened the station at around 7:00 p.m. German rail had been redirecting trains around the station and had made arrangements for some passengers to be transported in busses. Regular trams and bus services were not affected.
A regional express train which had just arrived at the train station after the call came in had to be evacuated. Passengers on the train expressed their understanding for the situation and left the train station calmly.
Train service is now running again on the regular schedule. Police are now conducting an intensive search for this man.
