Traffic jams cause problems Buses in Bonn up to an hour late
Bonn · Buses are slowed down not by staff illnesses but by traffic jams in Bonn. The situation on Bornheimer Straße and the City-Ring is particularly critical.
In companies such as Stadtwerke Bonn (SWB), sickness-related absences are particularly noticeable. A high level of sick leave can cause bus and rail traffic to stall at a certain point. According to SWB, however, sickness notifications are currently within normal limits.
The 70 bus drivers who have reported sick since Monday, as reported by the public transport companies, have not been confirmed by the municipal utilities. On request, press spokesperson Werner Schui speaks of an average level of sick leave, which is normal for December. In principle, sick leave notifications are always taken into account in personnel planning and logistics, namely in the order of nine percent – which, with 740 drivers at SWB and its contractors, would correspond to about 70.
Around 70 drivers ill
Schui excludes the possibility of disproportionate delays or even cancellations of buses and trains due to illness. However, the current traffic situation in Bonn is causing the drivers a lot of trouble. „Traffic on Bornheimer Straße and the City-Ring in front of the main station is currently slowing us down." Due to the traffic jams, delays of up to an hour are currently possible on some lines.
A mixed mood prevailed among the passengers asked by the General-Anzeiger about their impressions at several bus stops on Friday. "Sometimes the buses come a little later, but everything else is fine," a customer said. One woman, on the other hand, said: "I don't usually expect the buses to arrive on time anymore. They're always a few minutes late."
