The Bad Godesberg City Marketing Association sized up the past year and made an appeal to businesses on the Alte Bahnhofstrasse for the new year. Jürgen Bruder, chairman of the association, said it was very important that all the businesses participate in the Christmas lights project to provide holiday lighting during the Advent period since not all of the costs were covered in 2019. "And if no one else joins in, it is possible that the Alte Bahnhofstraße will remain dark during the Advent season of 2020," he describes the worst possible case scenario.

Ultimately, such a scenario would be sad for the St. Nicholas Market on Theaterplatz, planned for November 23 to December 23. Especially since City Marketing is planning to have Sunday shopping again in the pre-Christmas period 2020. "If churches and the trade union Verdi allow us," Jürgen Bruder adds.

The schedule for this year has now been finalized: The 109-member association with its office opposite Godesberg station continues to pursue the goal of "keeping Bad Godesberg liveable and attractive", as it says. The events calendar begins on 17 April with the three-day "Streetfood & Music Festival", according to Bruder. Culinary delicacies from all over the world can once again be tasted on the Theaterplatz. In the evening hours, a variety of music with various DJs and live bands will ensure a good atmosphere.

That event will be followed by the "GoVinum" wine festival, "which will be bigger than last year," promises the city marketing chairman. Those who are interested should note down the 8th to the 10th of May in their calendars. There are plans to place more wine and food stands on Theaterplatz and possibly also on Alte Bahnhofstrasse than in 2019.

Another crowd-puller is expected to be the German-Dutch fabric market again in 2020, explains Jürgen Bruder. This will take place on 17 May and 15 November, when thousands of fabrics in all imaginable colors and patterns will be on offer on Theaterplatz. The children and young people in the district will also get their money's worth this year on "Little Bad Godesbergers' Day" in the city center. Around two dozen shops and clubs will come together to offer a colorful array of games and fun for the little ones.

For the 24th to the 26th of July, the city marketing chairman says there will be a "Hamburg Fish Market" on Theaterplatz. In 2018, "Wurst-Herby", "Knabber-Paul" and "Käthe Kabeljau" - all vendors from northern Germany - travelled to the Rhine for the first time to offer not only fish specialities but also a market with high entertainment value.

"From August 6th to 9th, vacation time will be extended with a beach-like atmosphere at the Street Beach Festival", says Bruder. Theaterplatz will become a Caribbean oasis. Organizers promise sandy surroundings with palm trees, live music, refreshing cocktails and an extra children's program.

As is tradition, the popular city festival will be held from 18 to 20 September. For more than 15 years now, over 50 exhibitors have been a part of this event: "Shop, marvel and feast" is the motto. There will be entertainment on two stages. On Sunday, 20 September, the shops will also be open from 1 to 6 pm.

Bruder also points out the many antique and flea markets (see "Lots of markets planned"). "So we will not be cancelling any event, but rather resuming the tried and tested formats from the previous year and improving them in detail," says the chairman. Those who want to help are welcome. Because of the shortage of staff due to parental leave and the change in office staff, the association could well use some support.
