Since Friday night the risk of black ice is possible, during what is probably the last night of major frost with minus seven degrees Celsius. There is snow and sleet to be expected all weekend.

The motorists in the region have adjusted to the weather conditions quite well. Only five small weather-related accidents have been reported to the police authorities in Siegburg until Saturday morning, in which thankfully nobody got injured.

Less lucky was a truck driver on the A57 in the Köln-Longerich interchange: His vehicle started to skid and fell over eventually on the slippy road surface. The driver had to be freed from his truck and was brought to hospital. The motorway was closed for hours.

The good news though: The weather-influencing anticyclone over Scandinavia is getting weaker. A strong low pressure area over South West Europe will bring milder temperatures to the Northern Rhine area, first in higher air layers.

Temperatures are expected to be between minus two and minus seven degrees, in isolated areas in the mountains it can be even minus eleven degrees Celsius.

During Saturday the temperatures might only reach minus three to minus one degrees.

On Sunday it will be cloudy most day, with some light rain which can cause black ice as well on Sunday morning. The temperatures might be rising to a maximum of five degreed and even 11 degreed in the Bay of Cologne.
