German reunification day Events in Bonn and region on October 3

Bonn · It’s German reunification day on October 3 and that means most stores and businesses will be closed. If you’re looking for something to do, we’ve put together a short list of events taking place on Wednesday in Bonn and the region.

Family book festival

The Haus der Geschichte (History Museum) will have a family festival on Wednesday. German authors will be on hand to read from their books (for children) and at 11am, there will be a play called “Pirates, pirates”. The play is suitable for children over age four. Family festivals of the series “Käpt’n Book” (Captain Book) will also be held at the LVR-Landesmuseum and at the Brotfabrik. The theme at the LVR museum is “Knights and castles.”

Bonn Capitals baseball game

The Bonn Capitals, Bonn’s own baseball team, will compete against the Heidenheim Heideköpfe on Wednesday. The game of the final round will take place at 2pm on the baseball diamond at Martin Luther King Straße. Last year, the same showdown took place and Bonn was defeated in its attempt at the German championship. Come and see whether or not they will get their revenge. It is the first of five games in the final series.

Baskets game at the Dome

Another sports event is happening, this one at 6pm in the evening at the Telekom Dome in Hardtberg. Bonn’s own basketball team, the Telekom Baskets Bonn take on the Braunschweig Lions. It’s always a very special atmosphere at the Dome.

Tour of the former government district

Take a journey through 50 years of history in Bonn with a tour that focuses on various buildings of historical significance. Those interested meet up at 11am in front of the Haus der Geschichte. Plenary rooms, the Villa Hammerschmidt and the Adenauer room in the Museum König are just a few of the highlights. The tour is in German and costs nine euros (some are eligible for reduced price of five euros).

Jazz in Siegburg

The jazz singer Lyambiko performs in Siegburg in the Stadtmuseum (City Museum) in the Kulturhaus. The concert begins at 6 pm, with the singer presenting her latest album "Love Letters". She will be accompanied on the piano by Marque Lowenthal and on bass by Robin Draganic. Tickets are available for six euros in the City Museum.

Market in Meckenheim

In the Jungholz Hall, there will be a market starting at 11am with art and specially designed items and antique dealers. It’s a great opportunity to browse through objects new and old and find your bargain. Admission costs three euros for adults and is free for children and youth. The organizer Rhein-Antik says it will be a market full of atmosphere, reminiscent of the French markets.

Concert in Cologne

The Cologne band Kasalla returns to the Palladium for two concerts. Already in 2015, the band had played there. This year, the demand is so great that the Kölsch rockers were booked for both October 2 and 3. Their current album "Mer sin 1" entered the German charts in fifth place. The concert starts at 8pm in Cologne-Mühlheim.

Cabaret artist Hagen Rether

With his program "Liebe" (“Love”), Hagen Rether is back on stage. The cabaret artist focuses his satire on contemporary social injustices, which he uncovers, underscored by music. The program is in German and starts at 7pm in the Bonn Opera.

Krewelshofer pumpkin regatta

At the Krewelshofer (Farmers market) pumpkin regatta, giant pumpkins are converted into boats. Beginning at 12pm, participants paddle on the waters in hollowed out pumpkins at the Krewelshofer Lake.
