Animal rescue for the fire brigade in Königswinter: According to Sascha Brengmann, deputy spokesman for the fire department, the firefighters tried unsuccessfully to rescue a dachshund from a foxhole on Thursday evening.

During a hunt for foxes at noon between Oberpleis and Jüngsfeld a fox had escaped into its den - three dogs followed it. But only two of them came out, the third called "Carlos" got stuck in the den.

Since the dog wore a GPS collar, the hunters were able to quickly locate the animal's position. However, the attempt to free him failed and the hunters alerted the fire brigade. The fire brigade of Uthweiler moved in, but had to abandon the search after two hours in consultation with the owner and the other hunters without result - there is no trace of the dog in the foxhole. The hunters' hope: That the animal comes to rest and finds its way out on its own.

The 15 rescue teams had problems because the den is difficult to access: "We had to carry our material about a hundred meters over very muddy field paths," said Brengmann. To get to the entrances to the burrow at all, the firemen also had to make room in a hedge with a chain saw. However, they were unable to reach the dachshund "Carlos".
