Cars caught fire First-aiders save vehicle occupants after accident near Siegburg

Siegburg · Two cars caught fire after an accident on Friday afternoon on the B56 near Siegburg. Several people were injured, including a baby. First-aiders probably prevented worse.

On the B56, a serious accident happened just before the Lohmar ontake on Friday afternoon. A 45-year-old man coming from Sankt Augustin was injured when his Peugeot convertible turned into the oncoming traffic, causing a collision with a small van. In the van were a 25-year-old woman and her six-month-old baby. Mother and child were brought to a nearby hospital with minor injuries. According to the fire brigade, first-aiders managed to get the vehicle occupants out before the cars caught fire.

The baby was strapped in correctly in an infant carrier. The B56 was closed in both directions during the rescue incident. The road was reopened at around 7.20 pm after the fire brigade had cleaned the road surface. Because the road surface was severely damaged due to the intense heat generated, the speed limit will be temporarily lowered to 30 kilometres per hour.
