After a friendly start to the week, the temperatures climb higher and higher on the thermometer towards the weekend. Up to 36 degrees are said to be possible in Bonn and the region. Because of the extreme heat, local thunderstorms are also to be expected.

Already on Thursday, North Rhine-Westphalia is expected to have open-air swimming pool weather with temperatures just below the 30 degree mark: Throughout the state it will be sunny and dry. The Cologne Bay will have a summery 29 degrees.

With lots of sun and few clouds, Friday will probably be the hottest day of the year in NRW. For the region from Cologne to Aachen, the German Weather Service (DWD) expects maximum values between 34 and 36 degrees. "A lot of sunshine for everyone," said a DWD meteorologist. In Westphalia, temperatures are between 31 and 34 degrees. A weak wind is wafting in addition.

The DWD expects a change in the weather in the course of Saturday: a cold front is expected to sweep over the country with heavy rain, hail and heavy gusts. "Thunderstorms will definitely occur", said the meteorologist. In addition, the weather service expects rather sultry weather with temperatures around 30 degrees. During the Saturday night, some areas are subject to strong thunderstorms. Then it will cool down to 14 degrees.
