Contract extended Gamescom to remain in Cologne in 2020

COLOGNE · Gamescom, the trade fair for video games, is extending its contract with Koelnmesse. The partners did not disclose how long the contract would run.

The Gamescom remains in Cologne. This was announced on Tuesday by the organiser of the world's largest computer and video games trade fair. Gamescom has been held in Cologne since 2009. Now "Game", the Association of the German Games Industry, has extended its contract with Koelnmesse. Both are organising the trade fair together. With this agreement, it is certain that the trade fair will open again in the cathedral city in 2020. This was confirmed by Koelnmesse press spokesperson Guido Gudat on request. The contract partners did not say how long the contract would run.

The eleventh Gamescom will open in August 2019 on the Koelnmesse exhibition grounds: On 20 August, trade visitors will be able to visit the computer and video games fair first, and from 21 August the public will be invited.

In the press release, Felix Falk, Managing Director of the Game Association, praises the Cologne location. The past few months have shown that Koelnmesse is the right partner for the industry: "The great support of Gamescom and the games industry by the City of Cologne and the state of North Rhine-Westphalia is also an important building block for Gamescom's unique success, which we will now continue to expand.“

According to the organisers, around 370,000 people attended the tenth edition of the event in the Cologne exhibition halls in 2018. Last year, the organisers had counted 355,000 visitors. However, the large number of visitors meant that some halls were so crowded that it was almost impossible to make any progress.

Ticket sales for Gamescom 2019 began at the beginning of March, quite some highlights await visitors at the Gamescom 2019. An evening ticket is available from seven Euro.
