31 May to 3 June Here’s what awaits visitors at the Museums Mile Festival in Bonn

Bonn · A 40 metre half-pipe, sound art and 40,000 Lego blocks are just some of the highlights attracting visitors to the Museums Mile Festival.

A 40 metre long half-pipe for skaters, a large slide from the roof of the Bundeskunsthalle to the Museumsplatz, a children’s metal band, Lego car races and music from a carpet organ all promise loads of fun and variety at the Museums Mile Festival from Thursday, 31 May to Sunday, 3 June and, of course, all five museums are taking part again. The new UN-Campus station is “naturally worth its weight in gold” to regional visitors, said Victoria Appelbe, business development officer from the city of Bonn, at the presentation of the programme in the studio of the Haus der Geschichte.

The Bundeskunsthalle is opening its exhibition “The Playground Project – Outdoor” at the festival. Various artists have set up an assortment of games – musical furniture, 40,000 Lego blocks, swings, climbing walls and more on the roof of the museum, the aforementioned slide, children’s construction sites, video games, as well as a container with karaoke, unusual basketball baskets and seating and much more. There are rallies through the Nazca exhibition. A large fountain, which reacts to passers-by, is currently being built.

You can try out the Horst Gläsker’s sound installation in the foyer of the Kunstmuseum and tours of the current exhibitions as well as workshops for children and more are on offer. The Standart circus theatre will be performing again on Sunday in front of the museum. The Kunstmuseum and the Bundeskunsthalle are also organising an art night at Museumsplatz with speed tours, video installations and a stage programme.

The Haus der Geschichte is joining in with the football World Cup on Sunday with a quiz and table football. On Thursday, a trailer and a theatre group from Löwenzahn (Dandelion, the children’s TV programme) are coming. The Taktil theatre group will again act out scenes in the permanent exhibition. There will also be tours and other things on offer.

The Koenig Museum is following the Year of Science theme “Working world of the future” and is offering guided tours on bionics and division of labour in the animal kingdom as well as a look behind the scenes of the museum’s operations. At the weekend, the park will be open with lots of stands, hands-on activities and a stage programme. And you can board a shuttle bus from the Bonner Stadtwerke historical association, which will take visitors straight to the Deutsches Museum.

Visitors will celebrate the closing of the successful Lego exhibition with the museum. Under the theme “Colourful building blocks and speedy cars,” young and old can enjoy using Lego blocks and build Lego racing cars. Velomobiles will also be exhibited and you can visit the exhibition and more.

Entrance on all days is free at the Museum Koenig and the Haus der Geschichte. The other museums are free only at the weekend. The programme is displayed at the museums and is also available here.
