One person seriously injured Illegally parked cars hinder fire brigade
Bonn · A man was seriously injured in a fire in Bonn-Castell early on Monday morning. Illegally parked cars hampered fire brigade operations.
A man was found seriously injured in his apartment in the street “An der Esche” in Bonn-Castell early on Monday morning. The fire brigade said vigilant neighbours had made an emergency call to the fire brigade shortly before midnight because a fire alarm was beeping in the apartment on the first floor. There was a light on in the apartment but nobody responded to the doorbell or knocking. The fire brigade therefore forced open the door and found the occupant unconscious.
The apartment was full of smoke and food was burning on the cooker, which was still switched on. “It is still unclear whether the man fell unconscious because of the smoke or he first fell unconscious and the food burned as a result,” said Martin Haselbauer, spokesman and officer-in-charge for the Bonn fire brigade. The man was taken out of the apartment building on a stretcher, treated by an emergency doctor and then taken to hospital.
Arrival hampered by illegally parked cars
Illegally parked car shampered the arrival of the Bonn fire brigade. “We had to manoeuvre several times until we could drive into the street “An der Esche,” which is already narrow,” said Haselbauer. It was a small delay, but according to the fire brigade, seconds can also mean the difference between life and death in such cases. “Our basic appeal to all car drivers is: do not only think of yourselves but also about what is happening and could happen around you,” emphasises Haselbauer. Cars should never be parked in banned areas or in front of fire brigade entrances as they could then hinder the operations of the rescue services.
