Visiting Israeli professor Investigations into actions of Bonn police closed

Bonn · Following the attack on an Israeli visiting professor at the Hofgarten in Bonn, the public prosecutor's office has closed its investigation of four police officers who responded to the call and mistakenly thought the professor was the attacker.

The public prosecutor's office has closed the investigation into an incident concerning four policemen who wrestled a Jewish professor down to the ground in the Hofgarten in July 2018. The announcement was made on Friday by attorney Christoph Arnold, who represents two of the police officers. Initially, a man with Palestinian roots had attacked the professor, knocking the kippah off his head.

At first, the police thought the victim was actually the attacker and they wrestled the professor down to the ground, who in turn fought back against the officers. The public prosecutor's office did not believe his description of having received 80 to 100 blows from the policemen and saw no punishable action in the police conduct.
