Telekom Baskets Bonn Josh Mayo leads Bonn to victory in Frankfurt

Frankfurt · Thanks to an outstanding performance by Josh Mayo, the Telekom Baskets Bonn won their away game against the Frankfurt Skyliners 74:73.

Only four days after their thrilling success against Nanterre in the Fiba Europe Cup, the Telekom Baskets won their away game against the Frankfurt Skyliners 74:73 thanks to a strong second half. Josh Mayo was convincing with 24 points.

At the start, both teams were too erratic in attack but the Frankfurt team fought time and again for second chances and increasingly drew on them. The hosts led by eight points at the first siren.

The picture did not change much in the second quarter. Lots of mistakes continued to frustrate both teams and at half time Bonn was still eight points behind.

Headed by a strong Mayo, the Baskets improved after the change. The Bonners were much more focused and scored. Mayo continued to increase his score and the guests’ defence remained confident. The third quarter went to the Baskets and the Bonners started the last part of the game five points behind.

After Frankfurt’s captain Quantez Robertson was sent to the showers after a discussion with the referee, the Bonners earned their first lead since the first quarter, again through Mayo.

In the crunch time, the lead changed time and again. Half a minute before the end of the game Julian Gamble obtained the lead again. Seven seconds before the end of the game, Mayo failed to score a three-pointer, giving the Skyliners another chance. But Shwan Huff failed to score from the three-point line on the final siren and the Baskets won. Besides Mayo, Julian Gamble was also convincing with 20 points.
