Bonn · Walid S., who was already known to the police, is said to have kicked his victim in the head as he was already lying on the ground. Now the judgement will be pronounced in the Bonn District Court. The public prosecutor has demanded six years in prison for attempted manslaughter.

The verdict is expected in Bonn’s District Court on Thursday in the trial against Walid S., who is said to have kicked a man in the head. The public prosecutor’s office is demanding six years’ imprisonment. The defence hopes for a milder sentence and is pleading for a maximum sentence of three years.

The charges against the young man with Italian citizenship and Moroccan roots include attempted manslaughter and grievous bodily harm, resistance against law enforcement officers, assault against police officers, and insult.

According to the public prosecutor, Walid S. is particularly accused of knowing about the possible life-threatening consequences of his kicks. On the one hand from the Niklas Pöhler case, but also because he practised the martial art of kickboxing in Italy. “The knowledge concerning the danger was present”, also confirmed defence lawyer Martin Kretschmer recently. After he had stressed again how unnecessary the acts of his client were, he pleaded for a maximum of three years imprisonment because of grievous bodily harm.

This time, 23-year-old Walid S. is on trial for several offences. On 12 January of this year, he is said to have rabble-raised in a Bonn fast-food restaurant. He then fled and hid behind a construction fence before the police could catch him in a slip road to an underground car park. He is said to have resisted his arrest violently and an officer was slightly injured. In addition, he is accused of reaching for the weapon of one of the officers. On 10 February, S. is said to have kicked a man on the ground twice in the head.

A verdict is expected on Thursday at 12 noon.
