On Monday evening a large area of forest between Much-Wellerscheid and Much-Hündekausen caught fire. According to GA information, 5000 to 10,000 square meters of spruce forest were on fire. Fire brigade units from Much, Wiehl, Lohmar, Troisdorf as well as Siegburg were called out to control the fire.

The firefighting operations of the emergency services were made more difficult because the affected forest was located on a slope. The water supply also caused massive problems for the emergency services, so that they had to lay a 500-metre long pipe from the Wahnbach. A farmer helped out in the meantime with a water tank. Several farmers supported the operation with liquid manure barrels.

Parallel to the fire-fighting operations, the burnt trees, some of which were six metres in size, had to be felled. In the meantime, the fire brigade had built a barricade to the still intact forest to prevent the fire from spreading. The fire was extinguished by 10.15 pm, the post-extinguishing work is still ongoing.
