The popular snack bar in Bonn’s south city, Lenné Snack, is about to close after more than 30 years of business. This was confirmed by the owner Adrian Plonka on Friday. Adrian „Addi“ Plonka is about to lock up for good - and Bonn loses a snack bar with cult status. The Lenné Snack restaurant in Bonn’s south city was port of call for many a student and for former politicians, for young and old, for people with big appetites and small hunger pangs alike. In October, Plonka will close the doors of the Lenné Snack chipper at the corner of Lennéstraße/Weberstraße forever. The first to report the pending closure was the online news portal Bonndirekt. Plonka confirmed the news story when contacted by the General-Anzeiger on Friday. „It is true, I am finishing up“, said Plonka.

The 56-year-old neither commented on the detailed circumstances nor on his plans for the future. But it seems clear that Plonka will stay in the south city and is changing the premises to private use. The news of the closure spread quickly on social networks - and caused quite a lot of reaction. „This is the worst news of the year“ someone said. There were also many good wishes and greetings by customers and friends for „their“ Addi: „Wishing you a long and happy time after Lenné Snack, but the gap the snack bar is leaving cannot be closed.“ Many people arranged to meet for one, perhaps last, snack at Plonka’s restaurant.

1985, Plonka took over from his predecessors, the trained chef and butcher had lived in Cologne before. „When I came here first, I thought this corner was completely grey and dull“, said Plonka in an interview in 2016. But he stayed - and the Bonn people quickly included him in their midst. „My worries that I might not be accepted here in the 1980s were forgotten quickly“, he remembers looking at his tattoos. And so Plonka and his snack bar gained cult status. Until October 13, you can can still call in - for a snack or a chat with the 56-year-old.
