“Uferlichter” event Lighting display transforms spa gardens into Christmas wonderland

BAD NEUENAHR · It’s a Christmas event bathed in colorful and imaginative lights. The “Uferlichter” (“Riverside Lights”) offers more than lighting displays, however. Art and culinary specialities from the region are also big attractions.

Christmassy winter pleasure fills the spa gardens of Bad Neuenahr once again this December. On the second, third and fourth Advent weekends, as well as "between the years", the riverside lights, called the “Uferlichter” transform the area into a Christmas wonderland.

The lighting display will be on for a total of 13 days this year, as it will also be open between Christmas and New Year's Eve on four days from Thursday, December 27 to Sunday, December 30. This gives visitors the opportunity to end the year in a cozy and relaxed fashion after all the Christmas stress.

The festively decorated Kurpark (spa park) will impress visitors with new lighting installations. For the first time, illuminated spheres "float" in the walkways above the visitors. White pagoda tents house the culinary offers from regional restaurants and winegrowers. From Bratwurst to Döppekooche with homemade punch in the heated lounge tent of two-star chef Hans Stefan Steinheuer, visitors will find all they need.

Opening on Friday

Those who come can also expect an interesting and expanded offer on the art scene. In the past years, art has become a focal point of the event. As in previous years, art will be offered in the outdoor area directly on the banks of the Ahr. But this year there will also be an art tent, featuring the work of eight different artists on a rotating basis. The thermal bath house is also developing a special exhibition space where, in addition to the Are Artists Guild, there is also an interactive exhibition called "Life & Love Stories for Advent".

Parallel to the shore lights, a varied entertainment program takes place on the event grounds. Various musicians performing, allowing the guests to dream, marvel, laugh and indulge in the music.

Something special for children

The children's program in the Kurpark is particularly popular. While parents enjoy a chat while sipping on punch, the little ones make Christmas presents in the children's tent, wander through the "Christmas fairytale forest" with flashlights or let St. Nicholas surprise them.

The official opening of the event is at 5pm on Friday, December 7. This will again be accompanied by a small open-air concert of the trombone choir of the Protestant Church. On Saturday, December 8, all art lovers are invited to the art exhibition at 6:30 pm. The musical highlight of the first “Uferlichter” weekend takes place at 7:30pm in the baroque room of the town hall of Bad Neuenahr. On December 9, all children are invited for a magical walk with St. Nicholas. It begins at 5pm, the meeting point is the children’s tent. At 6pm, light juggler Rene Albert will perform in the park.

Opening hours

Fridays through Sundays, December 7 -9, December 13 - 16, December 21 - 23, and Thursday, December 27 through Sunday, December 30. The lighting display is on from 4pm to 9:30pm, and on Sundays it begins earlier at 2pm.
