A man who returned from Italy has been undergoing treatment in a hospital in Cologne for suspected corona virus. According to a statement by the city, the man had initially been referred to an emergency medical practice by the fire department's rescue service. The reason: the man had returned to Cologne from Lombardy, but it was not clear to the city that the region had been designated a Covid-19 risk area by the Robert Koch Institute (RKI). Now a quick test is to provide clarity.

The patient is currently complaining of fever, the city reported on Monday. The RKI had not listed that Lombardy had been a "risk area" since Sunday on its internet home page - only on a "subsequent internet page" could this information be found, according to the city of Cologne. In fact, however, the public health doctor on duty had continued to be in contact with the man. He had taken care of his admission to the hospital himself. Lombardy is the region in Italy most affected by the new coronavirus. On Monday, the authorities announced that five people had died in the region.
