Meckenheim · A man was found dead on a street in Meckenheim in the early hours of Saturday morning. Later in the day an 18 year old man was arrested.

Police investigations quickly brought success: a murder case in Meckenheim has been solved in just a few hours. Police took an 18 year old into custody on suspicion of killing a 45 year old man on Saturday night.

As reported, the body of the 45 year old had been found on the corner of Carl-Goerdeler-Straße and Giermaarstraße at around 3am on Saturday morning and the alarm was immediately raised. Upon arrival, the emergency services found a man with severe injuries. Despite intensive medical treatment, the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

On Saturday evening the police reported that an argument had evidently taken place in the early hours of the morning between the 18 year old man, the 45 year old man and the man’s brother (49). According to police, a “minor traffic offence” had occurred, which brought the three men into a confrontation.

The argument escalated into violence. The victim had apparently attacked the 18 year old, who then took out a knife and stabbed the 45 year old causing fatal injuries. Following forensic and criminal investigations and police questioning of witnesses and those involved, the Bonn prosecution authorities consider it to be a case of self-defence.

The prosecution authorities and the Bonn police homicide division had taken on the case during the night, secured the evidence at the scene of the crime and questioned the witnesses. These investigations led them to the 18 year old man, who had also been injured in the confrontation. The suspect was released after questioning. Investigations continue.
