In case of major fires, thunderstorms, bomb defusing or other dangers, the population will be warned. An important means for this are the sirens distributed over the Bonn city area. The next alarm test will take place on Thursday, March 5.
According to the city, the warning devices will be tested in all NRW municipalities at 10 a.m. on that day. In Bonn, 58 sirens will be tested for their functionality. During the alarm test, an uninterrupted wailing sound will first be heard for one minute, which stands for "all-clear" in an emergency. Then a one-minute up and down swelling tone is used to test the "warning" signal, which indicates a dangerous situation in a real emergency. Afterwards the constant tone for "all-clear" sounds again.
In addition to a warning window on the homepage of the city of Bonn, the direct announcement option in the program of Radio Bonn/Rhein-Sieg is also tested. The program is interrupted to broadcast information announcements from the fire department. In Bonn, the warning sirens have been tested every six months on Thursdays since 2018 following the "warning decree" of the NRW Ministry of the Interior.
