“Culinary journey around the world” : New concept at restaurant on the Petersberg

The Steigenberger Grandhotel Petersberg, the former guest house of the Federal Republic of Germany, is repositioning itself from a culinary standpoint. Anthony Sarpong, star chef from Meerbusch, is now acting as Culinary Director.

Anthony Sarpong is launching his new dining concept in the wine restaurant on the Petersburg, which is now called "Ferdinand Wine & Dine - Inspired by Anthony". "By new dining we mean indulgent creations served in several stages that make use of elements from French, African and Arab cuisine," explains Sarpong. "With our constantly changing menu, we take our guests on a culinary journey around the world. We search for products that have become scarce and work with producers from the region to ensure that they are cultivated once again. We then transform them into something new using elaborate processes.”

Anthony Sarpong was born in 1982 in Ghana and grew up in Germany. In the nearly two decades since his training as a chef at the Crown Plaza Hotel Wiesbaden, he has gained extensive experience around the globe - for example as a private chef in Spain, Italy, France, Kazakhstan and the United Arab Emirates. Sarpong has also worked in renowned Michelin starred kitchens, including Fischers Fritz in Berlin, Steinheuers Restaurant in Bad Neuenahr and Hummerstübchen in Düsseldorf. In 2015, the now 37-year-old opened the Anthony's Kitchen restaurant and cooking school, which was awarded a star for the first time in the Michelin Guide 2018.

For the implementation of the new concept in Ferdinand Wine & Dine, Sarpong won over his former employee Marwan Al-Hadithy, who helped him bring the first Michelin star to Meerbusch. The core team also includes restaurant manager and head sommelier Markus Johnen, who has worked as a junior sommelier at Hotel Traube Tonbach and as a sommelier at Romantik Hotel Wasserturm.

The Ferdinand Wine & Dine restaurant has a rustic and elegant design with light-colored leather armchairs and dark tables and chairs. It was named after Ferdinand Mühlens from Königswinter, the previous owner of the Petersberg property and former owner of the 4711 Original Eau de Cologne perfume manufacturing company.
