Couple smashes car into tree trying to flee from police

A young couple’s attempt to flee from police ended in a crash in Bonn-Bornheim early on Friday morning — the car they were travelling in hit a tree. Briefly after 4am, the police noticed a suspicious vehicle, on which two people were sitting. When they saw the patrol car they climbed into the car and tried to get away. After almost hitting a cyclist the car collided with a tree, the driver and his partner then tried to escape on foot.

The driver had no permanent residence and no driving license and was driving under the influence of alcohol and drugs. The car had fake number plates. The police found a small amount of narcotics and stolen passports and bank cards in the car. Witnesses - particularly the cyclist - are asked to come forward and contact the police at 0228/150.
