Plane from Hangelar crashes in Austria

HANGELAR-BONN. On Saturday a single-engined aircraft crashed 80km south of Salzburg in Austria. The plane had taken off from Hangelar near Bonn and was carrying a family from the Cologne area who were travelling to Austria for the holidays. The plane was heading for the airport at Zell am See. The pilot was killed in the crash and the two daughters aged nine and eleven were taken to hospital with severe injuries. According to the police, the plane crashed in an area of woodland that was difficult for the rescue services to reach. The cause of the accident has not yet been confirmed. Traffic jams expected on Reuterstrasse from January

BONN. Signs for a speed limit of 30 km/h on the section of Reuterstraße between Botanischer Garten and Bonner Talweg are already up and will be in use from 1st January. The sewer modernisation works along the Reuterstrasse will commence a week later on 7th January. In the approximately 250m long section between Reuterbrücke (Oskar-Walzel-Straße) and Schumannstraße, the main sewers including all gully systems are being renewed. Two lanes are being maintained during the works as over 40,000 vehicles use Reuterstraße every day. Nevertheless, the city council is expecting congestion due to the scope of the construction work and the high traffic load. The sewer renovations will cost around two million euros and will probably last until August 2021, according to the city council.

5G funding programme

BONN. The City of Bonn participated in the "5G Innovation Competition within the framework of the 5x5G Strategy" organised by the Federal Ministry of Transport and Digital Infrastructure (BMVI) and has been awarded a contract for its application "5G at major events".

The funding programme supports the development of concepts for 5G pioneer projects in model regions. Projects are to be prepared for testing and researching user-based solutions under real life conditions. The Bonn project will investigate the extent to which 5G technology can contribute to making major events more efficient, more environmentally friendly and with greater added value in the future. Bonn's business development manager Victoria Appelbe says: "With the project funding we can analyse how Bonn's international business and UN location can be expanded with the help of 5G."
