The first outdoor swimming pool in Bonn will open on Thursday

RÜNGSDORF. Visitors will be able to swim again in the panorama pool in Rüngsdorf from Ascension Day, this coming Thursday. The pool will be open from 10 a.m. to 19 p.m. The entrance fee is 4 euros, or 2.50 euros with reduction. The pools cover about 16,000 square meters and are heated to a water temperature of at least 21 degrees. There is a 50-m sports pool, a diving board with a 10-m platform, a paddling pool and a leisure pool with a 27.5-m slide and an unobstructed view of the Drachenfels and Petersberg.

The city is busy finishing a concept that is currently only in draft form and is to be presented at the beginning of this week. It is not yet clear how the entrance will work, how many swimmers will be allowed to swim in the pools and on the sunbathing lawns at the same time, or how the use of changing rooms or toilets will be organised.

Pool manager Peter Baumgartner and his team have brought the panorama pool out of hibernation over the past weeks, despite the crisis. In mid-February, his team started cleaning and clearing leaves and emptying the pools, which are kept filled even during winter, as a protection for the tiles against frost.

A few days before the opening, everything is now ready and Baumgartner is relaxed, but says "actually, I'm expecting a restrained visitor turnout; everything depends on the weather”.

The city publishes an interim report on the development of the Beuel-Ost district

BEUEL. An interim report on the development of the Beuel-Ost district concludes that the current condition of the district is rather poor, but that there is potential. This conclusion resulted primarily from stakeholder discussions with residents, businesses and institutions. The conclusions were that the individual uses and stakeholders are largely isolated from one another and there is no "creative" exchange; "underuse", mainly due to regulatory aspects (incorrect parking, waste disposal) is perceived as disturbing; there is a lack of quality gastronomic facilities in the neighbourhood, both for catering for those working there and for visitors to cultural events; the railway line represents a barrier, which is also reflected in the perception of the Beuel-Ost quarter; the development of the traffic infrastructure of the quarter is extremely important for the overall development; priority should be given to the development of the Evonik waste site, Siegburger Strasse should be revitalised, there should be cooperation between the markets and the theater and Pantheon, and the underpasses should be upgraded.

According to the experts, the future development in Beuel-Ost should be guided by potential. “Within the neighbourhood, largely self-sufficient sub-areas/clusters have developed that show a certain potential. One example is the cultural cluster in and around the Beuel Halle site, on which cultural institutions such as the Theater Workshops and the Pantheon are concentrated. It is important to promote, develop and profile the potential of the individual subspaces”, the experts said, but are not yet revealing exactly how this is to be done.

The city intends to present the report on 8 June and on 16 June, the Beuel district administration will analyse the proposals. The city council will then put together a package of measures on 1 September.

The city of Bonn is checking that hairsalons comply with coronavirus measures

BONN. Since hairsalons have reopened, the public order office of the city of Bonn is checking whether they are complying with the current hygiene regulations. Eleven salons have been visited, because the control centre has received tips from the populace that they have violated the hygiene regulations, city spokesman Marc Hoffmann told the GA. Random checks have also been carried out in the city centre.

Robert Fuhs, head of the hairdressers' guild in Bonn/Rhein Sieg, can confirm that not all hairdressers are complying with the regulations. “We have been contacted all over Bonn and Rhein-Sieg”, he says. There had been indications of disregard for the rules of hygiene. “We thank the public order authorities for cooperating with the trade in this way”, he said. The vast majority of hairdressers are adhering to the protection regulations.

Elke Siewert, lawyer and managing director of the Hairdressers' Guild, confirmed that the Guild has received several complaints: “Some, who are not members of the Guild, don't think they have to follow the rules.” Her main concern is of fair competition.

There has been a limited number of infringements: “So far, only two hairdressers have had to be told that masks are to be worn correctly and in general”, said Hoffmann. They were clearly reminded of the hygiene regulations to be observed. “As the hairdressers are well aware of the rules in force, no shop has yet had to be closed and no penalty proceedings initiated”.

Large-scale police operation as officers search for a criminal in Kessenich

KESSENICH. Late on Friday evening, the police searched for a criminal in Kessenich. Several patrol car crews were used and the officers were supported by a search helicopter with a searchlight and a dog handler with a police dog. Several officers surrounded a block of houses between Pützstraße, Burbacher Straße, Wolterstraße and Hausdorffstraße and searched the area where the wanted man was suspected to be. In order to be able to search the rear areas of the adjoining residential and commercial buildings, the police also entered a restaurant and a garage yard. The police initially did not give any information about the identity of the wanted person. The search operation ended at about 0.20 a.m. on Saturday morning.
