Bad Godesberg city center “Nikolausmarkt” opens

Bad Godesberg · With the opening of the “Nikolausmarkt”, Bad Godseberg has officially entered into the Christmas season. And to some visitors - hot spiced wine tastes good at any temperature.

Glühwein (hot spiced wine) at 13° C? This didn’t even seem to be a question for customers at the wine stand of Uwe Beth. “Many are repeat customers, they drink (the hot spiced wine) in any kind of weather,” said Beth with a grin. The Bad Godesberg market, called the “Nikolausmarkt” opened officially on Monday with a “lights on” at 4:45 p.m. It’s the 17th Godesberg Christmas market, run by City Marketing, with lights sponsored by City Public Works (SWB).

More than 50 stands are open from 11 a.m. - 7:30 p.m., with food stands open later until 10 p.m. Visitors can stroll through the market, which offers everything from reibekuchen (potato pancakes) to scarves, tea, furs, warm chestnuts and porcelain. Something for the eyes but also for the appetite.

SWB head of marketing, Jürgen Winterwerp, District Mayor Simone Stein-Lücke and Jürgen Bruder from City Marketing (in photo) decided to check out life inside a Christmas stand. Youssif Achak invited them in to the world of stars, scented oils and wooden boxes from his native country of Morocco. “I’ve been selling here for six years,” he says proudly. But that doesn’t beat Beth who has had her wine stand there since 1982.
