Relief for many parents NRW waives half of the Kita fees for June and July

Düsseldorf · Parents in NRW did not have to pay any childcare fees recently because the daycare centres were closed. For June and July, too, the state has now announced relief for mothers and fathers. The actual implementation lies within the responsibility of the individual municipalities.

In order to ease the burden on parents during the Corona crisis, half of the contributions for day care in North Rhine-Westphalia for the months of June and July will be waived. The state government has agreed on this with the local authorities. The relief applies to „Kita“ facilities and if the children are in the care of day-care parents, explained Family Minister Joachim Stamp (FDP) on Tuesday in Düsseldorf. The actual implementation is a matter for the municipalities.

"I am glad that we will be able to offer all children a good range of day-care facilities and childcare again from June 8," the Deputy Minister President emphasised in a statement. "However, since regular operation is still subject to qualitative and quantitative restrictions due to the infection situation, I consider it fair to waive half of the fees for parents in the next two months.“ For April and May, parental contributions had been completely suspended.

The state cabinet discussed further possible relaxation of the corona restrictions on Tuesday. The "North Rhine-Westphalia Plan" presented by State Premier Armin Laschet (CDU) three weeks ago provides for numerous relaxations in the areas of business, sports and recreation, and culture – starting Saturday. The cabinet is discussing whether and under what conditions the green light can be given for this in view of the development of infection figures.

The results of the consultations will probably not be announced for a few days. The Corona Protection Ordinance will remain in force in NRW until June 5.
