Program highlights Nürburgring kicks off 2018 season

Nürburgring · “Rock am Ring”, racing, pop and country music. On Saturday, the Nürburgring begins its new season for 2018. Here’s a look at the most important dates.

The Nürburgring ring starts the 2018 season full speed ahead. But it’s not just about horsepower: With more than 60 events, there is of course much racing but also music and muscle power. With one of the largest festivals in Europe, “Rock am Ring” will once again attract nearly 100,000 people in June. Penetrating beats, elaborate stages and light and fire shows will mark the “New Horizons” electronic music festival while fans of party and German Schlager (folk) music will celebrate with their stars at "Nürburgring Olé". The most important racing spectacles, the German Touring Car Championship will take place September 7 - 9 during the “Nürburgring Olé".

Already in January, there was an early start with the much acclaimed obstacle course, “Winter Hell” on the racetrack. Officially, however, the season doesn’t begin until next Saturday. Then it’s “Gentlemen, start your engines.” Teams of the 24-hour race and the VLN Endurance Championship will be putting their racing cars to the test.

Only a week later comes the "Nürburgring Drift Cup": Europe's "King of the Nürburgring" will be determined. Smoking tires are guaranteed. For motorcyclists, the season in the Eifel traditionally starts in April. More than 10,000 bikers will arrive on April 22nd to receive their blessings at the motorcycling religious service called "Anlassen".

The ADAC Zurich 24-Hour Race, one of the biggest highlights in the calendar of events for all motorsport fans, will start on May 10. For four days, the endurance classic will captivate fans at the North Loop.

But muscle strength and stamina will be needed for a very different kind of endurance test: The Fisherman's Friend Strongman Run is scheduled for May 26th. The course is 24 kilometers long and will be full of obstacles.

Rock am Ring from June 1 to 3

"It's great that Rock am Ring has returned to us," says a delighted Nürburgring CEO Mirco Markfort, who has been in charge of Germany's most legendary racetrack for two years. After a small interlude in neighboring Mendig - the festival returned to Nürburgring last year. This year it runs from June 1 to 3 and includes headline acts such as "The Foo Fighters," "30 Seconds to Mars," "Muse," and "Gorillaz." Other sounds will come to the ring on August 24 and 25 with the “New Horizons” festival.

The Truck Grand Prix, from June 29 to July 1, is linked with a country music festival bringing top stars from the international country music scene.
