Xavier Gonzalez, CEO of International Paralympic Committee (IPC), is pleased: In red, blue and green, the colors of the Paralympic Games, different disciplines of the sports are depicted in a large mural. Anja Wenmakers of City Public Utilities is also impressed as she inspects the tram with the large Paralympic mural in the SWB (City Public Works) lot before it is put into service. “We are very happy that a regional transportation firm supports us in creating more awareness for our values - courage, determination, inspiration and equality,” remarks Gonzalez.

With the motto, “Bonn bewegen - die Welt bewegen” (Move Bonn - Move the World), IPC and SWB began a cooperation. For three years, a tram with the Paralympic mural will be underway in the city transportation network, making people aware of the IPC with its headquarters in Bonn. Swimming, weightlifting, wheelchair basketball, biathlon and all 22 sports of the Paralympics are depicted on the tram. The design was created by Yosof Rohesh of the Paralympic Committee.

The Paralympic tram will be used in Lines 16 and 18. “We want to get Bonn residents in the mood for the opening competitions in Rio de Janiero in September and at the same time advertise for the Paralympic Games,” explained Wenmakers. Small ads will also be shown during the tram rides, showing the various sports for persons with impairments.

“I am going to tell my whole team that they should only ride on this tram,” says Gonzalez with a smile at the official handover, asking if the tram also goes to Bad Godesberg. “We carry 92 million passengers a year and we support sustainable mobility in Bonn and the region,” noted Wenmakers. “And we are very happy about our cooperation with the International Paralympic Committee, which supports a sustainable sports program for the impaired, and environmentally sound mobility.”
