There was an incident on Sunday evening in front of the entrance area of Deutsche Welle in the Gronau. According to the police on Monday, a 61-year-old man appeared in front of the building at 7 pm on Sunday evening. He had a canister in his hand. An employee of Deutsche Welle watched the man as he poured the liquid contained in the canister onto the floor in front of the entrance area and tried to set it on fire.

When the Deutsche Welle security service approached him, the man fled in a car towards the Post Tower. A police search was initially unsuccessful. However, the 61-year-old reappeared at Deutsche Welle at around 9:25 pm. Now the man also had a hammer in his hand. He threatened Deutsche Welle employees, who then went into a secured area of the building and alerted the police. Again the man fled the scene in a car.

This time the crew of a patrol car discovered the suspect in his vehicle on Moltkestraße in Bad Godesberg. However, the man did not respond to the request of the police to stop his vehicle. Instead, he continued his journey, ran a red light, damaged a traffic island and was finally stopped at Max-Löbner-Straße. Since he refused to leave the vehicle, the police opened the driver's door, brought the 61-year-old to the ground and secured him. According to the police, he is said to have resisted in the process.

"There are currently no indications of a political background to the deeds at the Deutsche Welle building", said Robert Scholten, spokesman for the Bonn police. The man has not yet been questioned about the incident. It is not clear which liquid was involved. But no flame was produced during the crime. After his arrest, the 61-year-old was admitted to hospital on the advice of a doctor due to his general state of health. Sebastian Buß, spokesman for the Bonn public prosecutor's office, announced that he will be medically examined there. According to GA information, the results of these examinations will also determine the extent to which the man will be investigated further.
