The rescue helicopter Christoph 3 had to make an intermediate landing on a bike path on the banks of the Rhine after an operation in Bonn and was then unable to take off again. Mechanics tried to repair it. It was unknown at the time of going to press whether they succeeded.

The helicopter was alerted by the fire brigade, who were called out on Sunday morning. They had received an emergency call from a young woman who wanted to jump from a bridge over the Rhine. As all three Rhine bridges were in question, around 50 rescue personnel were alerted, who searched the area between the north and south bridges. A helicopter also flew over the river. An injured woman was found on the Rhine bank and was immediately treated by the helicopter’s emergency doctor and the emergency services. Due to the steeply sloping bank, she had to be lifted onto the cycle path using a turntable ladder.

During this rescue operation, another woman, who had fallen from the North Bridge, was found at Eduard-Spoelgen-Straße. “Unfortunately any help came too late for this person,” said the fire service.
