Accident in Bornheim Six injured in collision with mini-bus

Bornheim · Several children were injured in an accident on Wednesday afternoon in Bornheim. An apparent drunk driver overlooked a small passenger bus when he was trying to make a turn.

Four children and two adults suffered minor injuries on Wednesday at around 4 pm when their small passenger bus collided with the vehicle of a 63-year-old driver.

Police reported that the man was under the influence of alcohol. The accident happened at the intersection of L 281/Uedorfer Weg/ Eichendorffstraße in Bornheim. Police officers on the scene reported that the 63-year-old man did not give right of way to the oncoming mini-bus which was driving straight ahead when he tried to turn left. The 43-year-old bus driver, who had several school children as passengers, was not able to avoid the car and hit it from the side. She and an adult passenger, as well as four children between the ages of eight and 13 were injured. The 63-year-old did not suffer any injuries.

Witnesses called for help and many emergency vehicles arrived on the scene. Several persons were taken to hospital for outpatient treatment. A blood sample was taken from the 63-year-old driver. A spokesperson for the police said the damage was estimated at 12,000 euro. Both vehicles were towed away at around 6:30 pm, causing major traffic disruptions.
