Renovation of underground car park Some areas around university to be closed off

Bonn · For the coming two and a half years, students and pedestrians have to adjust to restrictions around the University of Bonn. Due to the renovation of the underground car park, the courtyard at Regina-Pacis-Weg and parts of the courtyard garden area (Hofgartenwiese) will be closed.

While construction work is being carried out to renovate the university underground parking garage, the courtyard in the area between Stockentor and Regina-Pacis-Weg will be closed. The passageway from the interior courtyard and from part of the courtyard garden will also be closed. Construction work and subsequent closures are expected to take two and a half years. On Thursday evening, the press office of the university confirmed the information to GA.

The entrance to the university building on Kaiserplatz and the entrances to the subway station "Universität / Markt" should remain open. Construction is scheduled to start next week. The Construction and Real Estate Company (BLB) NRW is responsible for setting up the construction site. For cyclists and pedestrians, alternative passageways are to be created. Due to the planned construction, the university will relocate its graduation ceremony from the the courtyard garden to the Telekom Dome.

The underground parking garage at the university has been closed since the end of 2012. Repairs and renovations carry an estimated cost of around 10.5 million euros. Four million euros of this cost will be spent on making access to the facility barrier-free. An elevator will be installed at the courtyard garden.
