Regional Christmas outings St Nicholas journey on a steam train

Brohltal · Special St Nicholas train trips through the Brohl valley on the historic Vulkan-Express will be running again this year.

During Advent, there will again be hour-long St Nicholas journeys on the Vulkan-Express between Brohl-Lützing and Oberzissen. The trains, pulled by the historic “11sm” steam engine, depart from the Brohltal station in Brohl-Lützing on the first three Advent weekends on Saturdays and Sundays at 12.30pm and then often also at 3.30pm and 9.30am.

St Nicholas gets on at the Schweppenburg-Heilbrunnen stop and gives every child a Nicholas bag. A stop to visit the Christmas markets can be included at the destination or at each station on the return journey (at 10.45am, 1.45pm or 4.45pm from Oberzissen) and the journey then continued. Passengers from the Brohl valley can also start the journey at their home station and then travel with the train to Brohl. Adults pay Euro 14 and children to eleven years old pay Euro 10, which includes a St Nicholas bag.

The Christmas trip on Tuesday 26 December starts at Brohl at 11.15am with further opportunities to board before Engeln, from where a guided walk through the Brohl valley will be on offer. Adults pay Euro 14 and six to 15-year-olds 6.50 Euro. The New Year’s Eve trip on Sunday 31 December at 10.15am from Brohl to Engeln includes a lunch break with a guided walk through the Vulkanpark. The return journey from Oberzissen to Brohl arrives around 4pm. Adults pay 17 Euro and six to 15-year-olds pay 6.50 Euro, which includes a drink.
