Second place design chosen Surprise decision for new swimming pool in Bonn

Bonn · Stadtwerke Bonn has chosen a design by 4a Architects GmbH in Stuttgart for the new swimming pool in Dottendorf. The design was second place in a competition for the project.

Stadtwerke Bonn (SWB) has chosen a design by 4a Architects GmbH for the swimming pool at the Süd power station, the General Anzeiger has learned. The Stuttgart firm was a surprise choice. They were in second place in the architects’ competition after the jury selected the Dresden firm Code Unique in April.

The three highest placed firms then went into their plans in more detail and 4a Architects won the selection process that followed. The Stadtwerke has still not officially confirmed the selection but they have only invited the Stuttgart firm to a press conference on Tuesday to talk about further steps. 4a Architects have completed many pool projects including a leisure pool in Offenburg and a thermal bath in the Vienna spa Oberlaa.

According to the current plans, the firm is planning two large halls in Dottendorf in which leisure swimmers, school classes and sports clubs can swim separately. The family pool will have a swimming channel leading outdoors. A paddling area, slides and an area for loungers are planned for the inside the hall. In the second hall, a glass wall will separate a learners’ pool and a diving pool from a 25 metre pool for clubs and schools. A single storey building containing two thermal pools will be built between the two halls. The sauna and wellness area will be spread over two storeys.

SWB are to put a developed plan before the city council by December. If the new build is approved, it will be the end of the road for the Kurfürstenbad and the Frankenbad.
