Restaurant tip Swiss chef serves burgers

Bad Godesberg · He cooked for many heads of state and even for Sophia Loren - but if she actually had spaghetti (which the Italian movie diva claimed she owes her figure to) is not known: The Swiss man Bruno Staub is taking over the Godesburger at the Moltkeplatz - self-branded as „Germany’s first inclusive burger restaurant“.

He cooked for many heads of state and even for Sophia Loren - but whether or not she actually ate his spaghetti ( the Italian movie diva claims this was her secret for maintaining her lovely figure) is not known. We reported about Swiss chef Bruno Staub last week and now we have learned he is taking over the “Godesburger” restaurant located at Moltkeplatz - he calls it „Germany’s first inclusive burger restaurant“.

Working at the “Godesburger” is a team of twelve, including seven staff members with disabilities. Straub did his apprenticeship at the luxurious Swiss ski resort of Lenzerheide. After a stint at the Hilton Hotel in Amsterdam, the chef went to Asia and worked at the Ramada Hotel Manila, the Singapore Mandarin, the Hongkong Shangri-La Hotel and the Gran Melia Hotel Jakarta. He was one of the youngest head chefs at the Westin Hotel Seoul (South Korea).

In 2000 he moved to Bad Honnef with his wife and children. With his international leadership experience in the culinary branch, he led the gastronomy outlet of the International Professional School there. He also taught students in the hospitality industry the subject of “Food & Beverage”.

The Swiss national then rented the Rhöndorf restaurant called “Alte Kapelle” and stayed there for three years before purchasing a hotel restaurant called “Bergblick”. Commenting on his rather unusual move to a burger restaurant, he says: „As an establishment, it is well-known and economically successful. I like it that people with and without disabilities are working together.“

On the menu of the “Godesburger”, there are nine different burgers, starting at 6.90 Euro, including a vegetarian version called „Grüne Wiese“. Weekdays they have a lunch menu between 11.30 am and 2 pm, for 8.90 Euro - including a daily special burger, a portion of chips and a sparkling water.

The “Godesburger” restaurant is part of the „bonn-rhein-sieg-fairbindet“ initiative and is being supported by the city council of Bonn, the Aktion Mensch organization and the Rhineland regional council. In 2016 the “Godesburger” received the inclusion award NRW.
