The teacher, from Hilden near Düsseldorf, denies the accusation. A spokeswoman for the Dusseldorf public prosecutor's office made the statement on Tuesday, upon request. The investigation will now continue and witnesses will be questioned.

The teacher is under investigation for insulting. The mother of the student to whom he is said to have said the sentence in June 2019 in front of assembled class, had filed a criminal complaint. The student has a German mother and a Lebanese father. The mother had suspected that the statement was based on her son's migration background.

The school is run by the Protestant Church in Rhineland who had initiated internal church proceedings against the teacher and - as is customary in such cases - suspended him until the criminal proceedings were concluded. The teacher was not suspended in the end. The student has since changed schools.
