Bonn and the region currently expects sunny temperatures. The high named Stefan is approaching over Whitsun and provides a comfortable 23 to 25 degrees Celsius at the weekend. During the nights the temperatures will cool down to 8 to 10 degrees, rain is not forecast for the time being.

This is of course good news for all those who want to take a holiday after the first relaxations of the strict Corona rules. But you should bring your sun cream with you on the trip. "You won't notice the strong sun rays immediately if it's not really hot yet," warns Bonn meteorologist Karten Brandt.

Concern about the extreme drought

A lot of sunshine and little rain may sound lovely for the holidays, but they bring a dangerous side with them. Since the middle of March there has been hardly any rainfall in the region. The consequences: According to Brandt, the first 35 to 40 centimetres of the ground are bone dry and endanger the vegetation. "A little shower wouldn't help, it needs much more rain." Brandt is worried about another year of drought after the drought in the summers of the past years, with serious consequences. Especially the spruce forests are suffering badly and even the Sieg already holds little water in May. In the course of last year's drought, the city of Bonn asked for the watering of street trees and facade greenery.
